Instinct M850 — why so hush hush, Sprint?

June 27th, 2009 No comments

Okay, I understand that the Palm Pre is the Big Phone On Campus right now, if you’re a Sprint subscriber… but the Pre was talked about and hyped for months before the launch.  As was the original Instinct M800.

My question is, if Sprint and Samsung are preparing to launch the next generation Instinct M850 in Q3/Q4 2009 (referred to by some as the "Dash" or "Deuce" or "Instinct 2"), why aren’t we starting to hear something about it yet through official channels?  It doesn’t have to be a big marketing  blitz…just something out there from Sprint and/or Samsung to let people know a new Instinct handset is coming.  But there’s nothing, and July ’09 is nearly here.

The silence leads me to wonder if the M850 has been cancelled.  Anyone have new information to share?  Any confirmation from Sprint about the status of the M850?

(To clarify any confusion, the Instinct S30 is the M810 and is not the next generation Instinct)

I cant wait to get my hands on this phone

Alerts, emails, etc. having a hard time alerting if you lose reception and some other stuff….

June 27th, 2009 No comments

I am in Hawaii right now and am normally from Utah so there is a 4 hour difference.  I have am just on vacation from work but still am getting all my emails of course and alerted meeting that I would of had if I was there, etc.  There is GREAT Sprint reception here, but there is a lot Volcanoes here and driving you can lose data reception really fast, but keep your signal from roaming.  So I can call people but no data activity.  Well if I am with no data and I would normally get an alert or email during that time it will not alert me or send the email alert later when getting reception.  Also have noticed with the 4 hour difference it seems to have a problem sending the alert at (for my 4:00pm Utah time meeting) 4pm Utah time or 4pm Hawaii time.  Both things hae kind of been an annoyance, though its not like I am concerned about a phone at the moment when I am sitting on the balcony of a condo about 50 yards from the sea shore. ;)

Due to issues, Pre went back

Horrendous and absolutely intolerable battery drain rendered the Pre basically useless to me.  Build quality was janky and screwed up, the slider wobbled a lot.

The signal was awful.  I rooted the device and checked the dbm and it was in the -105 territory.

I know it’s not the Sprint tower either, because I use to have a Pearl, and it got great signal in my house.  I exchanged the Pre for a Curve, and now I’m "mobile" again.  Mobile is where you don’t need to have it plugged in, you know, "WIRE-LESS".

Adios Pre, what you could have been.

Anyone know how to prevent all contacts from all email addresses and AIM from being added to the phones contact list? I been looking and I cannot find anything as of yet. I just got the phone today.

Boy Genius reporting Tour hitting VZW on July 12

Sprint needs to get on it and make their announcement, or at the very least "leak" something out before the official announcement.

People holding out for this phone very well could jump ship if they are able to get it in a couple of weeks with no word of a date from Sprint at that time.

Add Way to Block Calls From Mobile Syc

June 26th, 2009 No comments

I think I would be neat for Sprint to add a category to the mobile sync. That would allow us to have a place to add numbers that we would like the block from calling our telephone. This could be an option where we could enter a number in a specific defined area.   After the number was entered into the directory area for the do not call list. When someone called  From one of those numbers that is listed on our list. The phone would simply not ring on and they would not be able to contact us. The only way the number could be on blocked is if we would remove at our self from the mobile sync list.  I recently found out that some of the phones that Sprint does offer does have this option. In contacting the customer service they did tell me that the instinct does not allow you to do this. I think it would be a great feature to add to the mobile syc.  then it could be offered to many of the phones that utilizes the mobile sync service from the website.
