No Respect For Long-Term Customers

June 26th, 2009 No comments
I have been a continuous customer since 1997, mere months after Sprint PCS came into existence.  I have never left, and never even looked at any other provider.  Essentially, I have been extremely faithful in the relationship.  Over the nearly 13 years of being a Sprint customer I have increased my account to have eight lines.  Initially I was overpaying for this service, later it became a relative bargain.  In that time I have tolerated all the growing pains that Sprint has gone through as it grew from a third-tier provider to become a real player in the market.  At no time was I unfaithful to Sprint.

Everything has changed now and I am extremely angry with Sprint.  Up until now I had the impression that Sprint valued their existing customers, and especially their long-term customers.  With the new strategy in place it has become clear to me that I am no more valuable to Sprint than any new person walking into the store, even those people who jump from one mobile carrier to another whenever there is a bargain to be had.  Here is my complaint:  Sprint has introduced two new phones that require that the customer be on "new" plans that are standardized such that anyone can get them, and Sprint offers absolutely no incentive to the loyal customers who have been the backbone upon which Sprint has grown.  For my eight lines of service, and after all loyalty rewards vanish in nine months, my prices will double if I want to use either new phone (like the Pre).  What is worse, if I do nothing now and just stay away from the new style phones my costs will increase by $50 in nine months no matter what happens.  On top of that, as new phones are released it has become obvious that Sprint has a strategy to make them all not be compatible with my old plan, thus forcing me to eventually double my expenses.  The Pre and the Samsung phones are a sign of the direction in which Sprint is moving, and it is actually quite devious.

I have spoken with many people, including a high-ranking gentleman in the retention department who had the audacity to walk me through Verizon and AT&T’s websites to help me "shop the competition".  What I told him is that should I be treated poorly by my mobile provider I would rather it be with somebody who I have not committed 13 years to instead of somebody whom I believe owes me some loyalty and consideration in return.

I am on the cusp of leaving Sprint, even if it costs me more money than I am currently paying.  I figure if I am to be treated like just another new customer, I might as well be just another new customer.

Rebate

June 26th, 2009 No comments

I have 4 phones on my account.  One was ready for an upgrade credit of 150 but we didn’t need a new phone for it.  On the other hand, another phone was lost so we used it and got a phone for the other line.  It was supposed to be free with 30.00 (if I recall correctly) rebate.  I sent in the rebate, it was processed and got right to the point where a check would be mailed and then they denied it.  Said that the phone was not active on that account so it was not eligible.  As far as I am concerned, they are all the same account.  Maybe a different phone number but technically it says the phone is to be active for 30 days on the ACCOUNT.  Why was this denied?  I still put myself in another 2 yr contract on the one phone either way.  Why is this?  I think this is somewhat deceiving.  I would have returned the phone and cancelled the phone number I reupped but they conveniently didn’t send me notification with in the 30 days when I could still return the phone.  Made me very angry at Sprint.

LG Lotus Side buttons won’t ignore incoming call

June 26th, 2009 No comments

Hi,

I have an LG Lotus and when I receive an incoming call that I would like to ignore or silence the ringer on, neither of the side buttons will work. I am using my own custom ringtones that I have loaded into my phone. Is that causing the problem? My previous phone was a wonderful Samsung A900 and you could hit either of the side buttons to silence or ignore incoming calls. I know others with a Lotus who are able to do this. Any suggestions on what could be causing mine not to work?

Thanks for your time and help!

Rumor: Sprint to Release WiMAX Android Phone This Year. Who Cares?

June 26th, 2009 No comments

The Android news this week isn’t all about the HTC Hero, although it feels that way. A rumor has appeared that has Sprint planning to release an Android phone this year or next that is CDMA/WiMAX-capable. This is certainly an interesting proposition but given the situation of the WiMAX rollout in the U. S., who cares?

WiMAX is one of those technologies that sounds so good on the surface that it’s easy to get excited about the thought of high-speed connectivity everywhere. The problem is the everywhere part, and that is killing off the enthusiasm quickly.

Sprint is one of the companies that has been pushing for a big WiMAX rollout, but let’s face it, it is as spotty as a dalmation at the firehouse.

New ad campaign focuses on the new Sprint

June 26th, 2009 No comments

Customers and wireless industry experts alike are saying that they are seeing emerging signs of a new Sprint.

Whether it’s the speed and dependability of the Sprint network, the value of Sprint’s calling plans highlighted by Billshrink.com or customer testimonials, customers are choosing Sprint for a growing list of reasons.

On Friday, Sprint launched a new ad encouraging customers, especially early adopters of Apple’s iPhone on AT&T with expiring contracts, to take a closer look the experience they could enjoy by switching to a Palm Pre or other phone on Sprint’s network.

Ads began appearing in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and USA Today and select regional markets.

In addition, some Sprint employees were spreading the word by donating their status on their Facebook pages.

If I Close Keyboard During A Call Or When It Is Ringing Phone Shuts Off & Will Not Turn On!

June 26th, 2009 No comments

I had my Pre keyboard open and the phone started ringing, I picked it up closed the keyboard and the screen went black and the phone stopped ringing.  Now the phone will not turn back on.  I call the phone from my office phone and it just rings and rings.

This happened once before when I was using Sprint Navigation, after typing in an address and beginnning navigation I closed the keyboard and it went blank and would not turn on.  After several minutes the PALM logo eppeared and it went through start up and was fine.

Today, NOTHING.

Can only send email via Wi-Fi

June 26th, 2009 No comments

Email service is through Charter.  I can receive email anywhere, but get an email aplication error on sent messages if Wi-fi not connected.  Worse, once I get this error the message sits in the Outbox and never sends even when I later connect to Wi-Fi.

Rebooted several times, deleted account and readded…  nothing seems to make a difference.

Anybody have any fixes, ideas

Sprint Navigation Speaker

For the most part, my phone’s speaker sounds pretty good when using Pandora, YouTube & Sprint Music.  However, it sounds like the speaker is "blown" when using SprintNav.

Anyone else notice this?
